About Ray Lee (李文俊)

Hey, my name is Ray and I am starting to draw at 29 years old. I loved drawing as a kid, but never took drawing seriously beyond 1st grade. I took one art class in high school and couldn’t even remember what I drew 🤣. There were always other things I was working on. First it was the violin, then it was my grades.

I have spent in total 8 years studying for my three bachelors degrees in Biology, Business, and Accounting. I’ve spent thousands of hours memorizing lectures and reading textbooks. I’ve always thought art was a waste of time and believed the myth about the “starving artist.”

However, although my degrees did open up doors for me in medicine and in business, it was always in the context that these pursuits were financially rewarding, and I should work these jobs so I can retire early and do whatever I want when I grow old.

I’ve felt dissatisfied with the monotony of work, and started to wonder what was the point of it all. It wasn’t until I saw the scribbles of my daughter’s drawings that I found a new direction.

My first goal was to impress my daughter. That was EASY! But then, I kept practicing drawing various other things because each time I master an object is like killing a boss in a video game, super satisfying! My ultimate goal is to be able to draw from my imagination.

I am documenting my journey and I hope you find enjoyment in my progress and mistakes. See you around.
